Is There Mail on Memorial Day 2021? USPS, UPS, FedEx

Memorial Day, observed every year on the last Monday in May, is a federal holiday. Most government offices and some businesses are closed on the day.

Mail delivery services are either suspended or operating on a modified schedule on Memorial Day. Here we look at the hours for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), FedEx and UPS for Memorial Day 2021.

U.S. Postal Service

The USPS is closed on May 31 but mail delivery services will continue the following day. The exact hours of operation differ by location. See the store locator at the USPS website for the opening and closing times of your nearest post office.

Many USPS services have been modified due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Users can see the latest detailed service updates and disruption notices at the USPS website.

At the time of publishing, service disruptions for residential customers were reported for Washington, D.C. as well as the following states:

The USPS website advises: "The Postal Service continues to follow the strategies and measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and public health departments regarding COVID-19.

"We are additionally reinforcing workplace behaviors to ensure that contact with our customers reflects the best guidance regarding healthy interactions, social distancing and risk minimization," it adds.

FedEx

Most FedEx services in the U.S. are closed on Memorial Day, apart from the FedEx Office and Custom Critical services.

"The FedEx Office locations will have modified hours the day before the holiday, with some locations closing early. Please contact your local FedEx Office location for details," the

The FedEx Custom Critical service remains open per normal, according to the FedEx website.

All FedEx services that are shut on May 31 resume normal operations the next day. "FedEx Office locations will open by 7 a.m. or at their regular time," the website says.

FedEx also announced updates to its services due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

It advises: "The COVID-19 outbreak has disrupted supply chains around the world. We're continuing to operate in impacted areas as local conditions and restrictions allow.

"Effective April 6, 2021, money-back guarantee will be reinstated for select FedEx Express services for U.S. domestic and U.S. import/export shipments."

It also "suspended Signature Required for most shipments," the company says.

UPS

Most UPS services are closed on Memorial Day. The company advises there is no UPS pick-up or delivery service, while the UPS Store locations are also shut.

The UPS Freight is also closed. "Delivery service is not available unless scheduled in advance. Pickups can be scheduled in advance with your local Service Center or Urgent Services Department at 1-800-644-0900," UPS says.

Customers can still access the UPS Express Critical service on Memorial Day, which is available year-round.

"UPS delivery operations have been designated critical infrastructure by governments and we continue to pick up and deliver, even in restricted areas.

"The majority of our services continue with the same expected delivery timeframes our customers have come to expect," the company says.
