Man Accused of Stabbing Girlfriend in The Eyes, Throwing Baby Out a Window

A Florida man has been charged after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend in both eyes and throwing their baby daughter out of a window.

Pierre Francois, 29, is accused of beating his mother before attacking his girlfriend and their one-year-old daughter early Saturday morning, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

Police found the child face down in the yard of the family's home in Fort Lauderdale at around 6 a.m. According to the newspaper, the Broward Sheriff's Office said it appeared the girl's nose had been bitten off.

Both Francois' girlfriend, who was not named, and the child were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Sun-Sentinel reported that the woman is likely permanently blind after the attack. She also suffered a laceration to her trachea among other injuries.

The child sustained traumatic brain injuries and is nonresponsive in an intensive care unit.

Francois' mother had a dislocated thumb and lacerations on her forearms, according to NBC Miami.

She told police she had been sleeping in her room when he entered in the early hours of the morning and "began acting like he was mad," according to the arrest report.

The woman said Francois began beating her with a piece of wood. He was "screaming for her to stop hurting his mother while she was attempting to tell him that she is his mother," the report said.

Francois' mother told police her son has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, but has not been taking his medication.

She said she believes he may have been having an episode at the time or could have been under the influence of a narcotic, the arrest report said.

Francois' mother said after he attacked her, she heard Francois hitting his girlfriend and their daughter. She heard the woman scream "don't hit us," according to the report.

At that point, his mother fled the home and ran to a neighbor for help.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Francois leaving the home. He assumed a fighting stance, before fleeing.

Francois was arrested and taken to Broward Health Medical Center to be treated for cuts to his legs and shoulders.

He is charged with two counts of attempted felony murder and one charge of aggravated assault.

He is expected to undergo a court-ordered mental health evaluation, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The Broward Sheriff's Office has been contacted for comment.
