Man Claims to Explain Rejecting Kiss During College Football Game in Viral Post

Over the weekend, college football fans caught a glimpse of a seemingly awkward moment between a couple during the game between Duke and Wake Forest.

During the game, the camera panned to a pair of Wake Forest fans who appeared to be a couple. At one point, the woman turns to the man and puckers her lips for a kiss, the man then turns away, appearing to reject the woman.

In the days following the game, as the video continued to circulate the internet, a post has gone viral on Reddit written by a person who claims to be the man in the video.

"I have gotten texts from high school friends I haven't talked to in years, random college classmates, and my sister and mom who have all seen that video, and I'm gonna take this brief moment of internet fame to explain what actually happened," user @wakevsdukefootball posted to the Reddit thread r/tifu.

In the post that has now received over 58,000 votes, the poster goes on to explain that he and the woman in the video had been dating for about a week prior to the game.

"Throughout the game we are flirting, hugging, kissing a little bit, etc. We also do this thing where one of us leans in for a kiss, and the other person leans away, which is an inside joke between the two of us. So, we do our little inside joke thing, and unbeknownst to us, we are being recorded," he wrote.

The person who wrote the post said he used a "throwaway account" so "people don't read my post history," though he directs people to TikTok accounts he says belong to both he and the woman in the video.

"Anyway, the internet is full of horrible people and I haven't done any work this weekend, so I'm gonna go do that now. Peace," he saaid at the end of the post.

The post was flooded with comments of other reactions to the moment.

"When you two get married, and the priest says "You may kiss the bride" you should totally do this again," one user commented.

Another commenter expressed support for the couple, "Thanks for the explanation but don't let folks kill your vibe. Yall [sic] look good together, I hope this event is something funny and doesn't add any pressure to the relationship. Best of luck homie."

On the TikTok account that appears to belong to the man in the video, he posted a video explaining the situation again which has now been viewed over 23,000 times.

"U embarrassed the mess outta her bud," one person commented on the TikTok.

On the account that appears to belong to the woman in the video, she explains her side of what happened.

"Whenever we kiss each other it's like a joke between us where one of us will swerve so that we don't actually kiss. So, that's kind of what was going on there," she said in the video from the account @sandx.lop which has been viewed by over 13,000 people.

She also confirms that the two started dating recently.

"I'll answer a couple of questions," she said in the video. "Yes, my dad was watching and he does... he saw. Second question, I don't know what I was doing with my eyelashes, my eyelids, please I don't know, I won't do it again, sorry."

"I was a little embarrassed, but now it's kind of funny between all of us."
