Man Filmed Driving Children's Toy Car on Busy Road in Bizarre Video

A video of a man getting into a motorized children's toy car before calmly turning off onto a busy main road has sent social media into meltdown.

The clip, which was first posted to Twitter by @ooh_she_creole, shows the man walking over to a rickety-looking black and white vehicle.

After a couple of minutes of tinkering with something in the back, the car's engine sparks to life, with the man cramming himself inside the vehicle before making a swift getaway.

While he's careful to look both ways before driving out onto the main highway, any concerns over safety begin and end there with the would-be motorist left dangerously exposed in the event of a crash.

"It's official, I've seen it all," reads the caption accompanying the video.

In the footage, a woman can be heard asking incredulously, "Is he gonna take off in that?" as the man, who is dressed in a black hoodie, jeans and baseball cap, approaches the children's play thing.

A few moments later he is in the automobile and on his way, much to the audible amusement of those watching on in the background while the video is filmed.

First uploaded to Twitter on August 8, the astonishing clip has racked up more than 7.4 million views and counting since it debuted on the platform.

Responses to the video have proven varied to say the least.

For many, the man's tiny car was something akin to a real-life version of a popular Nintendo arcade racing game.

"Need all my friends to get one so we can play Mario Kart," @MashaylaNicolee commented.

Some were impressed by the speed of the car and its handling.

"Dipped out into traffic too," @veterans_i wrote, with original poster @ooh_she_creole agreeing "At the speed of a regular car!! Blew my mind lol."

Others, meanwhile, shared similar clips of young men making their way across busy city roads driving in miniaturized toy cars seemingly designed for children.

However some warned of the danger posed by such vehicles.

The Twitter user @geonal wrote: "Problem's never the size, but rather the consideration of safety to conform to the laws of physics."

"It is all fun, until while in motion, you hit something at 50mph, and your body becomes the shield to the car," they added. "A bigger vehicle is built to shield you, instead."

Meanwhile, @Marclappin warned that "this is just the very beginning of some weird homemade illegal electric vehicles. You wait."

Despite the obvious dangers and the fact using it on a main road represented something of a legal gray area, plenty were impressed with the man's wheels.

"Guess who ain't walking OR paying car insurance but still getting from point A to point B," @stewiefreeman wrote. "I see you bruh."

According to one eagle-eyed viewer the car was filmed driving in South Bend, Indiana. They reached this conclusion after spotting a moving truck emblazoned with the 574 area code which appears near the end of the clip.

Several people have also surmised based on the driver's actions in the back of the car at the start of the video that the vehicle is, in fact, gas powered and fitted with a lawn mower-style recoil starter.

Newsweek has reached out to the original poster for comment.
