Man Who Disappeared While Taking Out Trash Found Safe, Back Home: Police

UPDATE: Saurabh Gupte was found safe on Wednesday afternoon and has been returned home, Seattle police posted on Twitter.

Gupte was seen in Seattle's South Park neighborhood, police said, and he was later returned home. No further information about his original disappearance has been made public.

Below is Newsweek's original report from earlier Wednesday when Gupte was reported missing:

A Seattle man has been reported missing after he didn't return home while taking out the trash, police and KING-TV in Seattle reported.

Saurabh Gupte, 34, was reportedly last seen by his wife when he left their condo around noon on Monday to take out the trash while wearing a dark brown shirt, blue pants and flip-flops.

Gupte was seen in parking garage surveillance footage prior to taking out the trash, and his wife, Shraddha Gupte, told KING that he left his phone and keys inside with her and their 4-month-old baby while taking out the trash after he finished a work meeting online.

"He loves me, he loves his family, he loves his parents, he loves his baby. I don't know how he just disappeared. He's not that kind of guy who would just walk away," Shraddha Gupte told KING.

He was in good health physically and mentally, and nothing about him or his recent behavior had concerned her, she added.

Seattle police said Gupte is about 5-foot-7 and 180 pounds, and said anyone with information should call the department.

"I just want everyone's help to find my husband Saurabh. He's really very kind and friendly. I want my Saurabh back, my baby wants his father back," Shraddha Gupte said.

Police are looking at surveillance footage from surrounding buildings to see if Saurabh Gupte can be seen anywhere else outside or around the building, KING reported.

He had taken out the recycling from the home minutes earlier, returned to their sixth-floor home, then didn't return after taking the trash down the hallway to the building's trash chute, according to KIRO-TV.

"This is just a nightmare for all of us, you know? Just a nightmare," Shraddha Gupte told KIRO.

She said their family and friends are posting signs around the area to bring attention to her husband's disappearance, according to KIRO.

"Something has happened," she told KIRO. "I don't know what happened but I'm requesting to everyone of you please, please, please help me."
