Man Slammed for Treating Lion Like a Pet in Video Viewed Almost 100m Times

A popular TikTok star has been widely criticized on social media after sharing a video of himself petting a female lion.

Humaid Albuqaish boasts more than 7.1 million followers on the popular video sharing platform and regularly posts clips of himself interacting with exotic animals.

However, one of his latest videos has been condemned by animal lovers as cruel.

In the clip, Albuqaish can be seen sitting down, cuddling up to a female lion in much the same way someone might engage with an ordinary household cat.

Yet there is nothing ordinary about this particular feline.

Within seconds, the potentially deadly animal apparently spots something off camera and begins baring her teeth, evidently perturbed at whatever she has spotted.

Moments later, things escalate further as the unsettled lion unleashes a series of terrifying roars.

Albuqaish, for his part, sits calmly beneath the animal, seemingly powerless to do anything but watch on.

Footage of his hair-raising encounter can be viewed here.

At one point, Albuqaish can be seen smiling as the lion begins roaring—but apparently few of his followers were left amused by the encounter.

Fellow TikTok user Alec Jones wrote: "Let him be free this isn't right."

Albafrev agreed: "Why would you do this to animals? Why??"

Shannon lamented: "This is just heartbreaking. What humans do to animals for their amusement is soul destroying."

1spiersdodgerblue went further, writing: "Amazing the arrogance of men to think that they could have this wild animal as a pet."

Anne B. commented: "Triggering the lion for views. Sad."

Rosebud wrote: "You need to re-evaluate everything. Why are you keeping such a beautiful creature indoors? Does it make you feel like a powerful man?"

Chris Hansen warned: "I know you're rich and powerful but you can't control that thing."

Sammie Yungster concurred: "It's a matter of time before that lion eats the dude."

Fsunoles170 added: "Whatever happens to this dude, he deserves it."

Sam Cotton, meanwhile, suggested: "Mate just get a dog."

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Albuqaish is going to be changing his ways anytime soon, with this particular video of his exotic animal exploits racking up 99.5 million views on TikTok already.

It's just the latest in a series of clips involving the Dubai millionaire and a selection of potentially deadly tigers and lions.

This isn't even the first time Albuqaish has drawn criticism of this kind.

Back in May 2015, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Australia (RSPCA) had criticized Albuqaish for keeping in captivity animals that belong in their natural environment.

"These people seem to use exotic animals like artwork, surely there are better ways to show off your wealth," an RSPCA spokesperson told News Corp (via Yahoo News.)

Newsweek has reached out to Albuqaish and the RSPCA for comment.
