A wedding singer is a wonderful contributor to the vibe of the occasion—and one man has gone viral after surprising his cousin with a thrilling operatic performance to light up their big day.

A video posted to TikTok by Jason Berger (@jasonberger05) has gone viral after sharing the moment he surprised his cousin with his version of "Nessun Dorma" at his wedding. The footage has gone viral to the tune of 143,000 views and over 10,000 likes. Berger, 33, spoke to Newsweek about using his opera skills for such a special event and how the crowd responded.

"I decided to surprise my cousin at his wedding in Brazil by singing 'Nessun Dorma,'" Berger captioned the video. Berger lives in Wilmington, Delaware, and sings as an operatic tenor.

Berger said he got the idea to surprise him with the song because he knew it had the power to elicit an emotional response in people.

"We were touring around the bride's hometown, and she asked me the day before the wedding if I wanted to sing something," he said. "Opera is what I am trained in, and I know the song plays to my strong suits."

Play to his strong suits it did, and people in the comments remarked on how powerful Berger's voice was.

"Pavarotti would be proud," one person wrote.

"It would have been criminal if you hadn't sung this beautiful gift to your cousin and family," another person wrote. "You're absolutely phenomenal."

One person even shared the way the song hit particularly close to home: "This brought such a tear to my eye," another person wrote. "This was my grandad's favourite song, and we played it at his funeral a few years ago. Thank you for bringing back all the fond memories I have of him."

After he sang, Berger said many commented on his talents: "My cousin and many of the guests told me they had no idea I was able to sing like that and several told them that it made them emotional," he said. "It was a surprise, because my cousin didn't know I was going to sing, but his bride did."

While everyone seemed to love his rendition, he said his cousin and bride were his main focus.

"It meant the world to be able to sing at his wedding as he is my only first cousin, and the reason I love to sing is because I want to contribute in a positive way to the community around me," he said. "If I can brighten someone's day through my abilities, that is amazing."
