Premier League Transfer News: Manchester United Favorite to Sign Robert Lewandowski, PSG Swoop for Chelsea Star

Manchester United look set to be the best of the rest this Premier League season, but that will still be hard for the red side of the city.

Despite gaining ground on the summit, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are storming toward the title, leaving Jose Mourinho's team work to do in the summer to catch them up.

Today's (March 12) transfer round-up will offer hope to United, though, as they appear to be the favorite to sign one of Europe's most prolific strikers. But their rivals are also rumored to be strengthening.

Here, Newsweek guides you through all the news and rumors swirling around the Premier League with just eight games of the season remaining:

Having added Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku to his team last summer, Mourinho is already looking at another of Europe's best target men. According to ESPN, Manchester United is the favorite to sign 29-year-old Polish striker Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

Manchester United will also try and strengthen the left-back position this summer with a bid for Brazilian left-back Alex Sandro, according to the Sunday People. The Brazilian defender has also been a target for Chelsea but Juventus have demanded a fee of around £70 million.

And Chelsea may be set to get weaker rather than stronger, as their seemingly omnipresent midfielder N'Golo Kante is the subject of interest from France. According to Goal!, the two-time Premier League title-winner is wanted by Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea forward Kenedy, who is currently on loan at Newcastle United, scored twice on Saturday (March 10) in an easy win over Southampton. According to the Newcastle Chronicle, manager Rafael Benitez wants to make the deal permanent for the 22-year-old Brazilian.

Liverpool have been told to forget any chance of signing 22-year-old forward Timo Werner by Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, according to the Daily Mirror. Manchester United were also believed to have been interested in signing the German.

And finally, Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann has been looking for houses in Catalonia as rumors of a potential move from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona gain momentum, according to Marca.
