Gun violence continues to be an issue in the country.
The shootings over the Halloween weekend come just over two weeks after a 16-year-old gunman fatally shot three students and a teacher inside of a special needs classroom in an Oregon elementary school. A 54-year-old teacher and a 7-year-old student were injured, while the gunman was fatally shot by a father who has two daughters attending the school.

During President Joe Biden’s administration, gun violence was declared a public health crisis by U.S. Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy.
The latest available statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that around 44,000 people died of gun-related injuries in the U.S. in 2024. President Donald Trump’s administration has taken a different approach and has moved to roll back a number of gun control measures.
In the midst of the violence that unfolded over the weekend, gun violence and gun control measures may well be a topic on the minds of many voters as they head into the midterm elections on November 3.
