Mario Is a Plumber Again After Official Profile Update

Remember when Nintendo changed Mario's profession and he was suddenly not a plumber ? Well, that lasted a total of eight months. The official Japanese Nintendo site updated Mario's profile again and confirmed that one of the most iconic video game characters is still a plumber after all.

According to Mario's character profile, his official occupation is a plumber but his various jobs don't stop there. Here's a very rough translation from the character profile via Google Translate.

"Cheerful and cheerful, everyone's popular. Twin brother, Luigi is a good friend and a name combination. With sports utility, I will do everything coolly, from tennis and baseball to soccer and car racing.

Occupation is a plumber. But the place of activity does not stop there.

I love Peach Princess, and if Princess Peach is in trouble, I will go help at any time.

With a good jump and various power-ups, I will face a bad guy."

Back in September 2017, before the release of Super Mario Odyssey, the official Japanese-language site updated Mario's profile to clarify that he used to work as a plumber. Here's the translated excerpt from the previous update.

"All around sporty, whether it's tennis or baseball, soccer or car racing, he [Mario] does everything cool. As a matter of fact, he also seems to have worked as a plumber a long time ago…"

Nintendo's Chief Creative Fellow, Shigeru Miyamoto explained how Mario became a plumber back in the 1980's and how the games Mario appear in define his profession.

"With (1983's) Mario Bros., we brought in Luigi and a lot of the game was played underground so we made him to fit that setting and, we decided he could be a plumber," Miyamoto told USA Today back in 2010. "The scenario dictates his role."
