The United States Postal Services observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a national holiday so there will be no USPS service on January 20, 2020. Additionally, post offices will be closed, as they are run by USPS.
If you need to post mail around Martin Luther King Jr. Day, you can still use the blue collection boxes. Mail will be collected from the boxes early on the day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on January 21, 2020.
Speaking about Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2019, Tangela Bush, District Manager, said: "We want to advise anyone with stamped or metered mail ready for delivery to drop this mail into a blue collection box instead of waiting to do so the following day.
"This also applies to our business customers, many who will still be open during the holiday. We want to get a quick start on processing their mail."
If you have to wait until the following day to post your mail, Bush recommends depositing it before 3 p.m. local time: "On your way to work or school is the best time to drop the mail at the Post Office or blue collection box. The earlier in the day we receive the mail, the sooner we can send it on its way to its destination."
UPS on Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2020
UPS does not observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day so all UPS services will run as usual on January 20, 2020.
FedEx on Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2020
Most FedEx services will run as usual on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Only FedEx Express and FedEx SmartPost will run with modified services, every other service will run following regular schedules on January 20, 2020. If you need to use FedEx Express or SmartPost, check with the company to see how your mail will be affected.
