McDonald's Customer Stabbed to Death in Dispute Over Order at Drive-Thru

An alleged row over a fast-food order at a McDonald's drive-thru in South Africa has left one man dead, while a suspect remains on the run.

The attack happened on Friday morning at around 4:20 a.m. local time in Emalahleni, in the north-eastern Mpumalanga province.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Police, told News24 that the two men involved in the dispute are not believed to have known each other. The victim has been identified as Trevor John, 29.

Police do not know exactly what the dispute was about, but said that a car guard witnessed it.

Describing recollections of the incident, Mohlala said one man got out of a red Volkswagen Golf, walked over to another man sat in their car at the drive-thru, and stabbed him in the chest.

The police brigadier said the suspect then fled by foot, leaving his car at the scene. Paramedics rushed to the scene but the 29-year-old victim was pronounced dead.

Mohlala said that the Volkswagen Golf was registered to a man from the neighboring Limpopo province.

The police chief told Newsweek that the 36-year-old suspect, Tschepo Bosoma, has handed himself in to Witbank police in the presence of his lawyer. He was detained pending further investigation. The suspect remains in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday.

Mohlala urged anyone with information on the murder to contact investigating officer Lieutenant-Colonel Jurie Steyn on 0826008529 on or the national crime stop number on 08600 10111.

Newsweek has contacted the police for comment on the incident.

Earlier this month, a 16-year-old girl was arrested in Calcutta, Mpumalanga, for allegedly murdering her two-week-old baby. The child's grandmother realized the baby was missing and asked the mother its whereabouts, but she allegedly refused to respond and the grandmother called the police. The young mother confessed to murdering the child when the police arrived and stuffing the infant's body in a school bag, Mohlala told South African media outlet Eyewitness News. Police then arrested the teen, who will appear in court soon.

On June 6, the bodies of a 24-year-old woman and her 2-year-old daughter were discovered in Mpumalanga. Police believe both were murdered at their house in the Siyathemba informal settlement in Balfour, in the northwest part of the province.
