# Mega Millions Results, Numbers for 1/28/20: Did Anyone Win the \$141 Million Jackpot on Tuesday (Last) Night?

The Mega Millions numbers for Tuesday (last) night were 17, 36, 47, 51, and 62, the Mega Ball was 21 and the Megaplier was X3. The Mega Millions jackpot was an estimated \$141 million with a cash option of \$98.6 million, but did anyone win the grand prize in last night's draw?

Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot, nor did anybody match all five balls to win \$1 million. Twelve people matched four balls and the Mega Ball and therefore won \$10,000 each, and one of these players tripled their prize to \$30,000 using the Megaplier X3.

More than 300 players won \$500 by matching four balls and 50 of these players tripled their prize by using the Megaplier. More than 750 players won \$200 by matching three balls and the Mega Ball and more than 100 of these players multiplied their prize using the Megaplier.

Additionally, more than half a million players won smaller prizes ranging from \$2 to \$30 by matching the Mega Ball to matching three balls and using the Megaplier.

In California, prize values are based on the number of tickets purchased and the number of winners, so California players may win prizes of varying values.

## How to play the Mega Millions lottery

As nobody won the jackpot in Tuesday night's Mega Millions draw, the lottery jackpot on Friday is an estimated \$155 million with a cash option of \$108.3 million. The next drawing will take place at 11 p.m. ET on Friday, January 31.

To enter the next Mega Millions draw, purchase a ticket for \$2 per play up until one or two hours before the draw, depending on your location. Choose five numbers between one and 70 for the white balls and one number between one and 25 for the gold Mega Ball. Alternatively, you could have the lottery terminal choose your numbers randomly.

Players have the option of purchasing a Megaplier for an additional \$1 per play. The Megaplier will multiply prizes, excluding the jackpot, by two, three, four, or five, and the Megaplier number is chosen just before the draw.

Additionally, in some states, players have the option of playing 'just the jackpot,' for \$3 for two plays. This option only allows players to win the jackpot and no other prizes, regardless of how many numbers they win.

The Mega Millions lottery is currently available to play in 44 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. However, as of January 30, residents of Mississippi will be able to purchase lottery tickets within their state. The Mega Millions draw on Friday night will, therefore, be the first chance for Mississippi players to enter the lottery.

## What happens when you win the lottery?

When a player wins the jackpot, they have the option of claiming their prize as an annuity or as a cash option. With an annuity, the winner will receive a first initial payment followed by 29 annual graduated payments. The cash option is of a lesser value but is paid out in one payment.

All prizes of \$600 or more must be collected at an official lottery office, but prizes of less than \$600 can typically be claimed at a licensed lottery retailer.

The Mega Millions lottery website urges players to gamble responsibly and states: "Although most people can play Mega Millions and other lottery games without ill effects, there are some people for whom gambling of any sort can be addictive and very damaging. Like other addictions, gambling addiction is a treatable disease. Twelve-step programs have proven to be particularly helpful.

"All of the Mega Millions member lotteries support and encourage the work of groups like Gamblers Anonymous and the National Council on Problem Gambling to combat gambling addiction and encourage responsible play.

"If you think you or a loved one may have a gambling addiction, or if you want to learn more, you can call the National Council on Problem Gambling's confidential 24-hour hotline: 800-522-4700."
