The last person to claim a Mega Millions prize was a man from Illinois. Danny Lovett, 60, claimed a one million dollars on Monday after he won the prize during the January 15 drawing. Lovett told lottery officials that he stopped for some coffee and a snack during his truck route to Des Moines, Iowa. The 60-year-old stopped at the Kum & Go convenience store in Colfax, Iowa, and decided to purchase a ticket.

Lovett, who is from East Moline, Illinois, told lottery officials he did not check his ticket until a few days later. He said he wanted to wait until weather conditions to improve in the Midwest and to wrap his head around his winnings before he claimed the prize.

"You count and you count and you look and it's like, 'There's no way!'" Lovett said. "Then you wake people up out of bed so they can see, too. It's a great thing."

The Kum & Go convenience store received a $1,000 bonus from the Iowa Lottery for selling the winning ticket at one of its stores, according to lottery officials. Lovett told lottery officials he wants to buy a house with his winnings, put away some of it for retirement, and buy a 1972 Ford Mustang fastback, a car he and his family have wanted for years.

"I'm going to get right on the internet when I leave here," he told lottery officials. "It's just a car I've always wanted since I was a kid and never could have one. Now I can have one!"
