The next draw takes place on Friday, May 3, 2019, at 11 p.m. EST. The estimated jackpot is $252 million with a cash option of $153.9 million.

Mega Millions tickets cost $2.00 per play, according to the lottery website. Players may pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers; five different numbers from 1 to 70 (the white balls) and one number from 1 to 25 (the gold Mega Ball).

Players win the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing. There are a total of nine ways to win a prize in Mega Millions, ranging from the jackpot down to $2.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350, with players picking five numbers from 1 to 70, and a Mega number of 1 to 25, according to The Washington Post. The previous formula had odds of 1 in 258,890,850.

There hasn't been a jackpot winner since March 12, 2019.

Mega Millions announced that a Sioux City, Iowa resident won $1 million playing Mega Millions for the first time. Angelica Chavez claimed her prize on April 15, 2019, from Iowa Lottery headquarters.

Chavez, 27, works at the Tyson Foods meat-processing plant in Sioux City. She hadn't played Mega Millions before, but her numbers were pre-selected years before when she worked at a senior-living center. She played lottery while she worked there, picking multiple sets of six numbers. These are the numbers that won her $1 million.

"I had already felt that I was going to win," Chavez told Mega Millions. "I put 15 instead of 25, or I would have won the whole jackpot!" Her ticket was the only one in the country to win a $1 million prize the night she entered.

Fleet Farm, where she bought the ticket, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Iowa Lottery for selling the $1 million-winning ticket at one of its stores.
