Mega Millions Numbers, Results for 2/4/22: Did Anyone Win the $22 Million Jackpot?
The jackpot for the Mega Millions lottery for February 4 was $22 million and had a cash-value option of $14.9 million.
The numbers drawn were 7, 16, 34, 44 and 61 for the white balls, while the yellow Mega Ball was 24, and the Megaplier was 4, according to the Mega Millions website.
No one matched all five white balls and the Mega Ball to win the jackpot, nor did anyone pick the five white balls to win the $1 million.
It meant that the biggest prizes won on the night were $40,000, by two players who used the Megaplier and picked four white balls and the Mega Ball. There were 10 other players who did the same, but without the Megaplier, they won $10,000.
There were 265 winners of the $500 prize, with 61 of them quadrupling their money with the Megaplier.
There were also 591 winners of the $200 prize, 131 of whom played the Megaplier. In total, there were over 350,000 tickets which won at least $2.
The estimated jackpot for the next drawing on Tuesday will be $31 million, with a cash option of $21 million.
Last week, a ticket holder in California won the massive jackpot which had been building for 28 weeks. The top prize was $426 million, which was higher than initially estimated, based on actual sales. The cash option was worth $292.9 million.
January is usually a bumper month for jackpots, with a $1.05 billion top prize going in January 2021, which was won by a four-player lottery club in Michigan.
Big prizes in the first month of the year were also won in 2018 ($451 in Florida) and 2019 ($437 million in New York).
How To play Mega Millions
The Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. ET.
For each drawing of one of the country's most popular lotteries, five white balls are taken from balls numbered 1 through 70 while a yellow Mega Ball is taken from a set numbered from 1 to 25.
Each ticket costs $2 per play and for an extra dollar in most states, there is the Megaplier option. This can as much as quintuple the non-jackpot prizes.
If the jackpot does not get won, the money is added to the top prize for the following draw and so builds up. When a ticket does win the jackpot, the top prize is reset to an average of $20 million.
Tickets can be bought in 45 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. However, they can not be bought in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah.
The chances of winning with a $2 Mega Millions ticket are one in 303 million.
