Mega Millions Results, Numbers for 12/13/19: Did Anyone Win $340 Million Jackpot on Friday Night?

The winning numbers for the Mega Millions jackpot lottery were drawn on Friday with players having the potential to win the $340 million prize and a cash option of $230 million.

The winning numbers for Mega Millions last night were 17, 21, 29, 39 and 56. The Mega Ball was 22, while the Megaplier was 3x.

No one won the jackpot by correctly selecting all five white balls and the Mega Ball, and no one secured a $1 million prize by correctly selecting all five balls without the Mega Ball. There were, however, 31 winners who can claim a $10,000 prize for correctly selecting four of the five white balls plus the Mega Ball and a further five who won the Megaplier prize, worth $30,000.

Because nobody won the jackpot, it rolls over and now stands at $372 million with a $251.6 million cash prize. The next drawing will take place on Tuesday, December 17, at 11 p.m. ET.

On Friday, the other winners included 750 people who won $500 for matching four of the five white balls, and 107 people managed to triple their winnings to $1,500 with the Multiplier. Almost 2,000 people won $200 and 245 people won $600 (with the Multiplier) for correctly selecting three white balls and the Mega Ball.

A little under 40,000 people matched three of the five white balls winning $10 and a little over 6,700 people upped their winnings to $30 with the Multiplier. Another 36,260 people won $10 by matching two white balls plus the Mega Ball, with another 5,515 people increasing their wins to $30 with the Multiplier.

By correctly selecting one white ball and the Mega Ball, 277,353 people won $4. Another 41,123 people won $12 with the Multiplier. The 671,565 people who matched the Mega Ball but none of the five white balls won $2, recouping the price of the Mega Millions ticket, and 99,233 people won $6 with the Multiplier.

What is the Mega Millions jackpot lottery?

The Mega Millions jackpot is drawn each week on Tuesdays and Fridays, when players have the chance to win one of nine prizes from $2 to the jackpot.

Players in most states also have the chance to double, triple and even quintuple their winnings by paying $1 extra for the Megaplier, which is selected at random immediately before drawing. It can be 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x and the only prize that can not be increased by the Multiplier is the jackpot.

At each drawing, five white balls numbered 1 to 70 and one gold Mega Ball numbered 1 to 25 are selected. According to the Mega Millions website, players have a 1 in 24 chance of winning a prize.

What do you do if you think you've won the jackpot?

Winners should claim their prize at a lottery office or lottery HQ within the same jurisdiction from which they bought the ticket.

There are two options. The first is called the annuity option, which is paid out as one immediate payment plus 29 annual payments, each of which is 5 percent bigger than the last. This, according to the website, is to help protect the winner's lifestyle in periods of inflation.

The second option is the cash option, which involves a one-time-only lump sum payment.

When was the last time someone won the jackpot?

According to the Mega Millions website, the last winner of the jackpot was an anonymous player in Leander, Texas, who won $225 million ($157 million in cash) on September 24, 2019.

That was the sixth jackpot win of 2019, with previous winners including Laarni Bibal in San Diego, California, who won $522 million (340 million in cash) on June 7 2019, and Hira Singh of Shawnee, Kansas, who won $50 million ($30.2 million in cash) on March 12, 2019 after purchasing a ticket from Kansas City, Missouri.
