The last person to claim a Mega Millions prize was a man from Millington, Michigan. Randy Richardson won the one million dollar jackpot prize during the March 22 Mega Millions drawing, according to a Mega Millions press release. Richardson told lottery officials he was looking to fill up his vehicle with gas after having dinner with his wife.
"My wife and I ate dinner in Millington and as we were leaving I noticed I needed to get gas," said Richardson. "I told my wife I saw gas earlier in the day for 22 cents cheaper in Clio, so that's where we went."
Richardson, 56, purchased the winning ticket at the Beacon and Bridge Market in Clio, Michigan. He told lottery officials that he checked his numbers on Saturday morning when he discovered he was a winner.
"I checked my ticket Saturday afternoon and saw I matched five numbers," Richardson told lottery officials. "I told my wife: 'You won't believe this, but we got five white balls and won $1 million!'"
Richardson claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, Michigan, on Tuesday. He told lottery officials he plans on saving for retirement, helping family members, and buying a new Harley with his winnings.
"I think I'll keep searching for the cheapest gas I can find. I figure this time I came out about $1,000,004 ahead," Richardson joked to lottery officials.
