Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Son Archie Has One of the Most Popular Baby Names of 2019

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally revealed the name of their son on Wednesday. Along with the first images of their baby, who was born on Monday, the couple announced the child's name, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in an Instagram post.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess' mother were also present for this special occasion," the statement read.

Within minutes of the name announcement, social media flooded with reactions to the child's moniker. While the royal couple didn't detail the inspiration behind their son's name, some people across the pond suspected that Markle and Prince Harry may have gotten the idea from the hit series Riverdale, which follows the dark and brooding teen Archie Andrews.

However, the name Archie is more common in the United Kingdom than some may assume. It was actually the 11th most popular baby name for new parents in 2019, according to 2018 data collected and shared by the British parenting website Bounty. Other popular boy names that topped the list included Oliver, George, Harry, Noah, Jack, Charlie, Leo, Jacob, Freddie and Alfie.

As for the most popular girl names in the U.K., the top 11 names included Olivia, Emelia, Isla, Ava, Emily, Sophia, Grace, Mia, Poppy, Ella and Lily.

Markle gushed over her baby boy and her new role as a mother while speaking with the media during the morning photo shoot on Wednesday. "It's magic. It's pretty amazing, and I have the best two guys in the world. So I'm really happy," she said, adding that her son already had "the sweetest temperament."

"He is really calm and he's been the dream," she continued. "It's been a special couple of days."
