Meghan Markle's upcoming wedding to Prince Harry is expected to be one of the most-watched television events of the year. As millions of viewers tune in Saturday, they'll likely scope the venue to see who Markle picked as her maid-of-honor.

It was once speculated that Markle would select Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney to be her maid-of-honor due to their close friendship. These rumors were fueled further once it was reported that Mulroney apparently served as a secret wedding planner to Harry's fiancée. However, Markle decided to not have a maid-of-honor on her big day.

"She has a very close-knit circle of friends and she didn't want to choose one over another," a Kensington Palace spokesman told People May 4. "All have been actively involved in helping her prepare for the day and will be there in the days beforehand. She's very happy to have their support."

While Markle refrained from having a made-of-honor, Kensington Palace confirmed Wednesday that she's selected six bridesmaids to participate in the royal wedding—all who are 7 and under. She chose HRH Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, Harry's goddaughter Florence van Cutsem, her goddaughters Remi and Rylan Litt, Mulroney's daughter Ivy Mulroney and Harry's goddaughter Zalie Warren. Likewise, Harry's page boy selections amounted to four, including Mulroney's sons Brian and John.

Markle has grown closer to Middleton, but she will not be participating in the royal event in any official manner. Since Middleton is expected to receive the title "Queen of Consort" upon Prince William becoming king someday, CNN Royal Commentator Victoria Arbiter suggested to Insider it wouldn't make sense for her to take on a "serving position" as bridesmaid. She is expected to attend the wedding, however.

Some of Markle's celebrity friends, including the cast of Suits, were invited to attend the royal event, but viewers shouldn't expect it to be a flashy affair. "At the end of the day, it's an intimate, private family wedding, albeit one that is shared with the whole world," Arbiter told Insider. "I don't think they're going to want to go for the celebrity flair, because that is not the way the royal families do things."
