Meghan McCain Confirms Fight With 'The View' Co-Host Abby Huntsman, But They're 'Still Very Good Friends'
The View's Meghan McCain has addressed speculation of in-fighting between her and now former co-host Abby Huntsman, who quit the show earlier this month.
Huntsman announced she was leaving the ABC daytime program to assist her father Jon Huntsman Jr.'s gubernatorial campaign in Utah. However, news outlets including CNN have claimed that Huntsman's decision follows tension on the set of The View.
On Wednesday night, McCain attempted to put the record straight on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
"Abby and I have been friends for over 10 years. Our parents were friends in politics," McCain said, referring to the famous Republican political families they both hail from; McCain is, of course, the daughter of former U.S. senator John McCain. "We worked at Fox together. Part of the reason she came to The View is because we were friends."
But McCain added: "We did get in a fight, which is a very small fight, a friend fight ... all friendships have ups and downs.
"It was bizarre for me, and bizarre for her, to have the fact we got in one fight in the two years we worked on the show to be put under dissection in the media, to be weaponized."
McCain said speculation about the fight in the press was "cruel" and that "it's been a rough couple of weeks for me. It's been really taxing to have our friendship used this way in the media."
The View co-host said that despite the fight between her and Huntsman, the two remain "very good friends."
"We're very close, I just talked to her yesterday morning," said McCain. "I think she was genuinely conflicted about her dad running for governor and her not helping. That is the reason why she left."
Huntsman was part of The View just shy of 18 months, joining in September 2018 and leaving earlier this month.
In her final episode on January 17, Huntsman said: "This has been a dream come true. This has been an incredible job. And I do love everyone at this table."
Huntsman also appeared to address claims of a feud between her and McCain, adding: "I just want to make it as clear as day, with everything that has been written about this place, that I am leaving so thankful for all the new friends that I have here, for all the friends I had before and will still have, and for the opportunity because this place has changed my life for the better."
