Melania Trump 'Doesn't Look Real Happy' Because Donald Promised He Wouldn't Win Presidency: Former House Speaker
First lady Melania Trump doesn't appear happy in the White House because her husband "promised" her he would not win the presidential election, former Republican House Speaker John Boehner said on Thursday.

"I think Donald Trump promised Melania that he would not win, she didn't have to worry about ever living in the White House," Boehner said at the Mackinac Policy Conference in Michigan. "It's probably why she doesn't look real happy every day—well, maybe one reason," he said, chuckling.
Boehner, who served as speaker from 2011 to 2015, acknowledged that Trump was one of his supporters while he served in the House, that the future president would call him when he was having a rough week, and that the two played golf together often. Boehner said he "never quite saw" Trump winning the 2016 election.
"But you know, the guy won. Now remember what I said earlier, right? Elections are won and lost not based on what the polls say, they're won and lost based on who shows up to vote, and you know, Trump's people showed up and Hillary's didn't," Boehner said.
The former House speaker prefaced his claim that Trump promised his wife she didn't have to worry about him winning by saying that the "two most surprised people in the entire world [on election] night were Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
"Hillary Clinton thought she was going to win, and Donald Trump thought he was going to lose," Boehner said.
The first lady, who has been absent from public view for 22 days as of June 1, during which she underwent a successful kidney procedure, has long been rumored to be unhappy in the White House. The speculation escalated after reports in January that her husband had an alleged affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, while Melania Trump was pregnant with their son.
Melania Trump two days ago tweeted an optimistic message that many social media users suspect did not come from her: "I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing. Rest assured, I'm here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!"
