#MelaniaLovesTrudeau Trends As Photo of Trump, First Lady and Canadian PM Gets Meme Treatment

Pictures showing First Lady Melania Trump with puckered lips and whispering in the ear of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G7 summit in France on Sunday prompted soap opera memes and social media mockery of the U.S. president's marriage.

The tongue-in-cheek Twitter intrigue questioning President Donald Trump's relationship with his wife was piqued by a series of news wire photographs which attempt to portray the seemingly intimate moment between Melania Trump and Trudeau about to share a kiss. Several pictures emerged Sunday of the Trumps holding hands to pose for a picture at the G7 summit in Biarritz, France, but as a frustrated -- or perhaps ashamed -- Donald Trump looks straight ahead, his wife can be seen enjoying a cozy moment with the Canadian Prime Minister.

#MelaniaLovesTrudeau is only the latest iteration of trends attempting to stir up social intrigue and baseless relationship rumors between the two neighboring nations' First Families.

The pictures of the pouty faced first lady appearing to move in for the kiss with the Canadian leader is not the first time Trump's Twitter critics and others have accused Trudeau of captivating a member of the U.S. president's family. In February 2017, several dramatized memes and images emerged appearing to show Ivanka Trump "swooning" at Trudeau during a prior meeting.

Dozens of humorous and mean-spirited memes emerged Monday morning with dramatic captions attempting to portray the Trump-Trudeau fake-kissing photos as a sign of romance.

"With aromas of humility and humanity and a scent of decency Subtle yet all consuming #MelaniaLovesTrudeau by Calvin Klein - available everywhere," read one particularly poetic post Sunday evening. "I wish I was a bigger person and didn't like this so much. #MelaniaLovesTrudeau," read another guilty pleasure post from British Labour Party member Blair Mcdougall.

Other social media critics took aim at the distinction between the sour-faced Donald Trump and the "Disney Prince" demeanor of Trudeau: "The world would be a much happier place if we could all find someone who looks @ us, like the way Melania looks @ Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau!" remarked Andrew Ferguson.

Perhaps preemptively taking on a defensive stance against such shallow rumors, Trump retweeted and replied to a right-wing journalist's claim Trudeau looked "submissive" sitting next to the U.S. president at their initial G7 summit meeting over the weekend.

"Trudeau bravely trash-talks Trump to the press gallery in Canada. But whenever they actually meet, Trudeau assumes a submissive position — politically, and even physically. Just look at this picture. Even a child would know who is in control," remarked Ezra Levant, a Rebel Media journalist.

"No, we actually had a very good and productive meeting. Nice!" replied Trump, pushing back against the critique of the Canadian Prime Minister's seated posture next to the president.

Another image of Trump and Trudeau meeting at the White House in 2017 appeared to show the Canadian leader looking suspiciously at the president's hand as he held it out for a handshake. Trump frequently adopts a similar clasped-hand pose as he sits next to other world leaders during photo opportunities.
