First lady Melania Trump announced initial details for the 148th White House Easter Egg Roll, with the event incorporating patriotic themes to honor America’s 250th birthday as part of a wider initiative from the administration to commemorate the anniversary of American independence.
The White House highlighted that the Easter Egg Roll is a “timeless White House tradition” and said the president and first lady looked forward to making it a memorable experience for attendees. The tradition dates back to 1878 during the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes.
This year's event will incorporate "patriotic themes throughout the event," according to a press release from the First Lady's office, including the traditional set of five wooden commemorative eggs available to attendees.

Tickets will be free and available through an online lottery that opens Thursday, February 26, and closes Wednesday, March 4, at 12 p.m. ET. Winners will be notified by email no later than March 10, and tickets not for sale or resale.
The White House said volunteer selections would be made via an online application due Friday, February 27.
