Memorial Day weekend has arrived and major stores are celebrating with deals and discounts on everything from tech and tools to appliances and grills.
Always observed on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day honors those who died while serving in the U.S. military. It was originally known as Decoration Day and originated in the years following the Civil War, before becoming a federal holiday in 1971.
The holiday is also the unofficial beginning of summer, so many brands will be celebrating with seasonal deals on goods such as outdoor grills and garden furniture.
Walmart, Costco and Home Depot are among the stores offering sales this Memorial Day weekend, and below, Newsweek has rounded up some of the best deals on offer.

Walmart
Walmart is offering deals on Apple products—get the Apple AirPods Pro for $197, down from $219, and the Apple Watch Series 3 GPS for $169, down from $199.
There are other tech deals to be had, like the ASUS C423 14" Celeron 4GB/64GB Chromebook, which is on sale at $239 down from $269.
Costco
Costco's weekend sales include big savings on appliances and mattresses.
Save up to $600 on the LG WiFi-enabled 4.5 cu. ft. front load washer and 7.4 cu. ft. electric dryer and up to $170 on the Whirlpool 25 cu. ft. large side-by-side refrigerator.
Costco's mattress deals include a TEMPUR-Contour Supreme 11.5" mattress and foundation starting at $1,899, while the Cocoon by Sealy 10" medium memory foam mattress is on sale at $249, down from $319.
Home Depot
Save on tools at Home Depot this Memorial Day weekend. Get the Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ lithium-ion cordless 6-tool combo kit with batteries, charger and a bag for $199, down from $299. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee M18 18-volt lithium-ion cordless combo tool kit with batteries, charger and a tool bag is $499 down from $999.
Home Depot is also offering deals on grills, like $50 off both the Weber Genesis II S-335 3-burner propane gas grill and the Weber Genesis II S-435 4-burner propane gas grill.
Lowe's
The Memorial Day weekend sale at Lowe's includes deals on home security, like $50 off the Ring alarm security kit wireless—8-piece kit (2nd gen) and $69 off the Google Nest hardwired smart indoor security camera.
Plus, save on appliances at Lowe's with $60 off both the Whirlpool 7-cu ft electric dryer and the Whirlpool 3.5-cu ft high efficiency top-load washer.
Best Buy
Best Buy is celebrating Memorial Day with a sale on appliances.
My Best Buy members will get a free $300, $400 or $500 e-gift card with the purchase of four or more select Samsung major appliances, as well savings on select Samsung washers and dryers. For example, members can get the high-efficiency washer with Activewash and electric dryer for $699.99 each, or gas dryer for $799.99.
