Updated | Ever since Vogue editor Anna Wintour became the chairwoman of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit—aka the Met Gala—in 1999, the black-tie celebration has become one of the most enchanting events in fashion. The industry's most elite players and high-profile celebrities always arrive at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum, where the luxurious event is held each year, looking nothing short of stunning but completely over the top.

Unlike most red carpets and award shows, the Met Gala is a time when celebrities and fashionistas can show off the artistic and often kooky side of fashion, donning the most intricate gowns, headpieces, statement jewelry and hairstyles. No matter how outrageous the look, though, the event is always flooded with glamour and style that usually embodies the theme of the year.

During the 2017 Gala Monday night, guests celebrated the opening exhibition of Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo, and they didn’t miss the mark in embodying the designer’s creativity.
