Heavily Pregnant Woman Shot in Abdomen in Michigan Parking Lot Gives Birth to Healthy Baby Girl

A woman gave birth to a baby girl hours after she was shot in the abdomen at a parking lot in Clinton Township, Michigan.

Both the woman, identified as 31-year-old Aisha Moore, and her child are reportedly in a stable condition after an emergency cesarean was carried out the McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens on Thursday, January 16.

"It's a horrible thing for any woman to be shot, let alone a pregnant woman," Clinton Township Police Detective Captain Richard Maierle told The Macomb Daily.

"Thankfully, the doctors were able to stabilize the baby and deliver the little girl. They said it looks like she was at full term in her pregnancy."

Moore was shot while she walked towards her car at Eastwood Village Apartments on Harper Avenue at around 6:50 a.m. on Thursday. She said she was approached by a male suspect who pulled out a gun and fired at her.

Moore described the suspect as a black man in his 20s with a medium build. She said she had never seen the man before.

The 31-year-old was then able to knock on a neighbor Miss Pat's door for help.

Speaking to Fox 2 Detroit, Pat said the gunshots sounded like "cars crashing or something" before she saw Moore on her doorstep.

"The first thing she said was 'Miss Pat, help me. I've been shot,'" she added.

Moore was conscious and alert when police arrived at the scene. She was then taken to the hospital for her emergency C-section.

"That baby's going to be a strong baby," Pat said. "They're both going to be alright. That's all I care about, both of them are going to be alright."

Police continue to investigate the shooting and are still searching for the male suspect who was last seen getting into the passenger side of a black SUV.

Local residents described their shock at the shooting.

"Horrible—things like that should not be happening in this world. It's sad," Kristen Steele told Fox 2 Detroit.

"It's scary, but things like this happen everywhere. It's the city, it's the times, it's going to happen," added Cynda Curley.

In a statement, the management for the Eastwood Village apartment complex told WXYZ: "We were saddened to hear about this tragic incident earlier this morning. Our number one priority is the safety and security of our residents.

"We are not able to comment on any pending investigation and are cooperating fully with the police in their efforts. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and friends during this very difficult time."

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The Clinton Township Police Department has been contacted for comment.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Clinton Township Police Detective Jay Anderson at 586-493-7854.
