Michigan Man Stalked Ex-girlfriend with GPS Trackers, Made Lists Titled 'Tactics' and 'Preparations'

A Michigan man has been sentenced to nearly four years in jail after driving hundreds of miles to stalk an ex-girlfriend.

Shawn Thomason, 39, of Hazel Park, has been jailed for 45 months after he pleaded guilty to repeated interstate stalking on March 20, the Minnesota District of the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.

The defendant admitted to orchestrating a plan to digitally stalk, harm, and abduct his ex-girlfriend, including attaching a GPS tracker to her vehicle so he could monitor her movements and carrying a gun while watching her.

According to prosecutors, Thomason drove more than 700 miles from his home in Hazel Park, Michigan, to where his victim lived in Mankato, Minnesota, to stalk her at least four times between October 30 and December 7, 2018. During these visits, Thomason surveyed her while she was at work and at home.

He was arrested on December 7, one day after making contact with his ex-girlfriend at her house.

During the investigation, it was found that Thomason kept handwritten lists he entitled "Tactics" and "Preparations" as part of his plans to stalk his ex.

As reported by Bring Me The News, when officers arrested Thomason at a motel in St. Peter, Minnesota, a number of items were seized from his possession, including a loaded handgun, black electrical tape, latex gloves, women's underwear and a stick-up camera.

Police also found a stack of papers with a number of questions and conversation starters he intended to use on his victim.

There was also a list of written messages for his ex, including ones reading: "I want you to commit to me 100 percent," "I want you to quit your job here," and "I want you to wear that perfume for me (from Valentines Day)."

He also had a ring with him and a note reading: "Please accept this ring as a promise to always do right by you. To never forget and never become complacent. To always put your needs and happiness above my own. To be there for you. To always love, honor, and cherish you."

Thomason was sentenced to 45 months in jail after appearing before Judge Eric C. Tostrud in U.S. District Court in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

After serving his sentence, Thomason will be subjected to three years of supervised release. The case was the result of a joint investigation conducted by the FBI, the Mankato Department of Public Safety, and the St Peter Police Department.
