MINI Prepares to Retake the States in 2022

After a four-year hiatus, MINI Takes the States is set for a reboot. The enthusiast event will take place along the East Coast of the United States, traveling across nine states.

MINI Takes the States occurred every other year from 2006 to 2018. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the brand, an arm of BMW Group, postponed the event twice. Despite the challenges, MINI enthusiasts and dealerships put together a celebration of their own across the United States.

The 2018 event attracted 3,600 MINI owners with other 1,000 MINI owners taking to the street each day.

In place of the 2020 event, over 100 MINI dealers across the U.S. hosting the first National Day of Motoring, a series of localized events that allowed for over 4,000 participants to enjoy socially distanced fun including drives, a scavenger hunt and trivia.

"Gathering as a community is an essential and defining part of the MINI experience for our customers." Caryn Grun, Manager, Experiential Marketing at MINI USA, told Newsweek. "It is why we at MINI USA are excited to bring back MINI Takes The States for 2022, having postponed the event twice due to the pandemic. We've aptly tag-lined this year's event as 'Reunite and Rally'."

The 2022 rally will kick off in Farr's Field in Waterbury, Vermont, near the Bolton Valley and Stowe ski hills, on July 9. The trek will then wind itself through nine states finishing up in Spartanburg, South Carolina the weekend of July 16-17.
Stops along the way include Long Pond, Pennsylvania, home of Pocono International Raceway; Frederick, Maryland; Roanoke, Virginia; Bristol, Tennessee; and Asheville, South Carolina. The path allows MINI drivers to drive the legendary Tail of the Dragon scenic highway.

The return of the rally is punctuated by a recent influx of special edition models from the company. MINI's fresh MINI Cooper S Hardtop 2 Door Resolute Edition combines expressive drive dynamics with green, black and white paint, accent and upholstery colors. It comes in a convertible variant as well.

The MINI Cooper S Countryman ALL4 Untamed Edition comes ready for adventure with all-wheel drive while wearing nature-inspired hues and unique graphics.

In honor of International Women's Day, on March 7 the automaker, a part of BMW Group, announced the Cooper S Hardtop 2 Door, a Cooper S Hardtop 4 Door and John Cooper Works Hardtop Pat Moss Edition. Designed to celebrate the company's motorsports heritage, the version features a new paint process for the brand that combines graphics and colors of MINI's racing past with the new model.

Additional new models including MINI John Cooper Works Clubman Untold Edition, MINI Brick Lane Edition and MINI Cooper SE Resolute Edition are also part of the 2022 and 2023 lineup.

The automaker also recently celebrated the 60th birthday of its most prominent model, the Coopen.
