Missing Irene Luevano's Family Say She Called to Say Boyfriend Stabbed Her

The family of a missing woman has said she called to tell them she had been stabbed by her boyfriend, shortly before she disappeared in Phoenix.

Irene Luevano, 37, was last seen near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road about 4 a.m. on Sunday, Phoenix Police said in appeals for information posted on the department's social media accounts.

She "may be injured and in need of medical attention," an alert said.

Luevano's relatives told ABC15 that the last person Luevano was with before she disappeared was her boyfriend, Jorge Lara, who is also known as George.

They said the couple, who live together, went to a bar on Saturday night near where Luevano was last seen.

Luevano, a mother-of-five, bumped into one of her sisters at the bar and had invited her over.

"I just wished I would have listened to her that night and would have come here," the family member told the station.

Luevano later called a family member and said her boyfriend has stabbed her near her neck, the family told ABC15.

"She's like, 'George stabbed me near the neck' and she's like, 'Call the police, call the police' and I'm like, where are you at? Tell me where you are,'" a family member said.

"She said, '"call the police, I don't think I'm going to make it. I felt like she wanted to tell me where she was at but as soon as she was going to speak more, the line cut off." After that, the family's calls to Luevano went unanswered.

According to the station, Phoenix police officers questioned Lara while he was treated in hospital for what are thought to be self-inflicted stab wounds.

He was arrested in an unrelated forgery case.

Luevano's mother, Arlene Luevano, said she is glad police have arrested Lara, but pleaded with him to tell her where her daughter is.

"He has to tell us where she's at, that's all I ask of him," she told the station.

Phoenix Police released a description of Irene Luevano and the vehicle she may be in, and urged anyone with information to come forward.

She is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. Police said she may be in a gray 2007 Chevy Impala with a license plate AZ D3A9VE.

The Phoenix Police Department have been contacted for comment.
