Naming your baby can be one of the most stressful parts of becoming first-time parents, but one mom has come up with a pretty unusual, but effective, way of making the choice.

The pressure of trying to find one that's right for you both can seem like an impossible task, and getting over personal preferences can be a big hurdle too.

A mom has shared her story of how she and her partner left the decision in the hands of the universe, and the internet is so on board.

Leaving baby name up to the universe

...

Emily McRae, from California, explained on TikTok that she and partner Cory couldn't agree on her son's name.

The mom-of-one said Cory preferred "cooler" and "trendier" names, but she only had one in mind for their baby boy: Max.

McRae also said that while Cory wasn't completely against the name Max, he wasn't 100-percent sold.

Time was ticking and it was during a vacation with friends in Mexico when McRae came up with an unconventional "cool way" to decide.

Speaking on the TikTok video, McRae explained that they were going to stop the next person who walked by and caught their attention, ask them their name and call their baby that name "no matter what."

"I'm sure you can probably guess this, but his name was Max and it was so cool. It sounds made up but it's true," she said.

When asked what the reaction has been like on TikTok, the mom-of-one said it was "really fun," and she's enjoyed hearing from other families how they chose to name their babies.

"A few people have told me that they also saw 'signs' of what to name their children," she told Newsweek.

One mom on TikTok shared, "I was wavering on Quinn. It's my MIL's [mother-in-law] maiden name, but I wasn't sold. I was actively thinking about how I needed to name him and I looked up to a literal sign 'Mighty Quinn.' Quinn is 10."

Another commented, "Honestly it was so hard to come up with a boy name, I get it! Just let fate decide!"

McRae agreed and replied, "Boy names are IMPOSSIBLE!".

Once she'd finished telling her story, McRae said: "I'm not suggesting going up to a stranger and asking them their name and then automatically naming your baby that name, but maybe give the universe a chance to throw a name your way and just see what happens because it's really fun and it's a good story."

McRae told Newsweek that she's also working on bringing together a community of moms to share the realities of motherhood, with a focus on the positive aspects while accepting the tough times too on Instagram @mumscence.

"I always love when a video gets traction that gets a discussion going."
