Nothing could have prepared a Connecticut mom for the news she was about to receive during her third baby's ultrasound.
Lianne Liebowitz, 36, and husband Danny, 35, were juggling a 3-year-old daughter and a son who had just turned 10 months when they unexpectedly got pregnant again.
“We were still very much getting the hang of parenting two little kids and adjusting to life as a family of four,” Lianne told Newsweek. “Adding another baby wasn’t really on our radar yet.”

Shock gave way to acceptance almost immediately. Life was hectic already, and she told herself there was something nice about having children close in age. Three felt manageable, familiar, even.
That familiarity informed her decision to tell Danny not to come along to the appointment. He was working full-time from home that day, and Lianne’s in-laws were already at the house helping with childcare.
“I remember telling him it felt silly for him to come to the ultrasound since we had just been through this recently, and I felt like I knew what to expect,” Lianne said. “We were joking about how routine it all felt by the third baby.”
Lying on the exam table, the appointment unfolded exactly as expected—until it didn’t. The technician’s casual question about how many children she had at home soon turned into an unforgettable moment for Lianne.
“I said I had two kids at home and this would be my third,” Lianne recalled. “She paused and said, ‘And your fourth.’ I remember saying, ‘What?’ and she said, ‘You’re having twins.’”
Lianne remembered screaming, crying and laughing all at once, stunned by the impossibility of it. Twins didn’t run in either side of their family, and they already had two babies under four at home.
She called Danny and he arrived at the office within minutes, having sensed from her voice alone that something enormous had happened. Before Lianne could even explain, he guessed the news correctly. “If it were anything else, you would’ve sounded different,” he told her.
Once the initial disbelief wore off, reality set in quickly. The leap from two children to four happened in a matter of minutes, and it was overwhelming. “There were moments where it felt scary, exhausting and surreal,” Lianne added.
Today, the Liebowitz household is, by Lianne’s own description, managing. Their twin girls—healthy, identical and recently turned two—are “easy babies because they have to be,” and their bond feels special.
Lianne shared her story in a reel on Instagram (@diaperdynasty)—an account to make daily parenting feel more manageable and joyful.
The response to the ultrasound video surprised her most. Parents flooded her inbox with stories of their own unexpected twists, reinforcing a sense of shared experience.
“It reminded me how many of us are in the same boat,” Lianne said. “Just trying to do our best and enjoy our kids in the middle of the chaos.”
