A Washington mom thought her toddler son only knew nursery rhymes, but it turned out he had more up his sleeve.

Instead of singing his favorite “The Wheels on the Bus,” mom Rachel Vega (@rachv3ga) caught her 2-year-old Luke singing Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”

Vega, who also shares Aiden, 14, Olivia, 10 and Eli, 8, with partner Andrew, told Newsweek “The Wheels on the Bus” was the only song Luke would sing with them until now.

“We have this little toy bus at home that plays it over and over,” the 32-year-old mom said. “I honestly thought he didn’t know any other lyrics to any I would listen to.”

Vega credits her sister for her toddler’s pivot from nursery rhymes to Elton John classics after she made a prom transition TikTok video.

“She used that Elton John song when she switched into a yellow dress,” Vega said. “Luke was obsessed with that video. After that, I started playing the song in our kitchen and dancing with him. Then I would play it in the car and sing it to him.”

Still, the mom of four wasn’t prepared for her son’s impromptu performance and said that she and Andrew were shocked “in the cutest way.”

“We just looked at each other like, ‘Is he really singing Elton John right now?’ His little voice is so cute, but he was so serious and committed—it melted us!”

Luke, who has just turned two, is the youngest of his three siblings. As the baby of the family, Vega said he loves to be included.

“He is such a sweet, gentle [and] happy kid,” she said. "Very cuddly [and] very observant. He picks things up so fast just by watching, so you show him something twice and he’s doing it. He loves copying his older siblings as well.”

Vega shared Luke's rendition in a clip on TikTok which has gone viral, clocking up over 3 million views. Thousands of users commented on the video in the hopes that Elton John himself would see it.

“Omg he put his whole soul into that AHHHH,” one user wrote.

“I would be so proud!! Raising that baby right,” another said.

A third user added, “I gotta [sic] say, his timing is quite good. He knows the count to start and stop. It’s very impressive.”

Vega acknowledged the internet’s kindness toward her clip. “People keep tagging Elton John hoping he sees it, and a lot of comments are like ‘this made my whole day’—those comments are my favorite knowing a little moment in our car made strangers smile,” she said.

“Especially the people that say they having a bad morning and the video made them feel better," she continued. "I love praise also—everyone keeps saying ‘great parenting.' It makes my day to read the comments."
