MONEY: MICROSOFT'S BIG PAYDAY

Microsoft shareholders are about to get a bonus. On Dec. 2, the company will pay out a $3-a-share dividend to those who buy the stock before Nov. 15 and own it on Nov. 17. But don't rush in now just to collect. The stock's $28 price is likely to drop by that same $3 once the dividend deal disappears on the 15th. Buying for a while is another story. Shareholders who stay put for at least 60 days will qualify for lower tax rates on their dividends. And by then, the price should've recovered a bit. The other option? Skip the fat dividend and buy when the price drops.
