'The Morning Show' Season 2: New Trailer Reveals Release Date

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are reuniting for a second season of Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show, but the new trailer suggests their reunion won't last long.

The first look at the new series gives fans plenty of clues of what to expect—new characters, returning favorites, and all importantly, the release date for the new season.

Season 1 was a hit with viewers thanks to its eerily similar depictions of real-life events. Production for the second season was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming wrapped last month and we can now countdown to the launch of new episodes on Apple TV+.

What the trailer tells us about The Morning Show season 2

The big reveal in the trailer for season 2 is that Alex Levy (Aniston), long-time co-anchor of UBA's The Morning Show, has left the show, leaving Bradley Jackson (Witherspoon) to host on her own. The trailer gives the impression that Alex has been replaced by a new male co-anchor played by comedian Hasan Minhaj (Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj).

The trailer also confirms the other characters returning for season 2. Steve Carell's Mitch Kessler can be seen seemingly giving a confession to a camera at this home. Billy Crudup (Watchmen) and Mark Duplass (Safety Not Guaranteed) return as Cory Ellison and Chip Black, respectively, while Karen Pittman is also back as producer Mia Jordan.

New cast members joining for season 2

The aforementioned Minhaj is featured, while there are other talented actors joining the cast too.

Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) is new and appears to have a starring role in the new series. Her character is seen interviewing Alex in a 60 Minutes-style environment discussing the scandal which rocked The Morning Show in season 1.

As reported by Deadline, Greta Lee (Russian Doll) and Ruairi O'Connor (The Spanish Princess) are joining the second-season cast. Lee plays an ambitious head of an online media company for millennials while O'Connor is a charismatic and savvy YouTube star.

When will The Morning Show Season 2 be released?

The trailer confirms that The Morning Show will return to Apple TV+ on September 17, 2021.

The second season consists of 10 episodes, and will be released weekly, every Friday, on the streaming service.

It's not known whether the release date was delayed, but production for season 2 started in late February 2020 and had to be postponed soon afterward because of the coronavirus pandemic. At the time producer Michael Ellenberg said in a statement: "In concert with our dedicated partners at Apple, we have concluded it would be prudent to take a two-week hiatus to assess the situation and ensure the safety of the incredible people who make this show."

Cast member Mark Duplass confirmed shooting for season 2 wrapped on May 14 with a selfie posted to his Twitter account.
