One of the workers at the Chiptole told WSB-TV, a television station in Atlanta, that she saw that the child was hurt and rushed to provide care.

"Some kids came in and they were screaming that someone shot him. You could see the visible gunshot wound coming out from his ear. We just stayed here applying pressure to the wound until the paramedics came. The mom was right there. She was the one putting a towel on his wound," said Johanna Cervantes, who works at Chipotle.

In a social media post about the incident, the Snellville Police Department said the child was alert and conscious during transportation to the hospital, and there were no more details they could release at this time.

The gun used in the shooting was allegedly left unsecured in the vehicle and belonged to the child's stepfather, according to WSB-TV. At this time, police are calling the shooting accidental. It's unclear if there will be any charges filed in the shooting.

Newsweek reached out to the Snellville Police Department for comment and further information but did not hear back before publication.

This comes after an 11-year-old girl was critically injured in San Antonio, Texas after an accidental shooting, also on Sunday.

Police said told San Antonio's KSAT, that the shooting occurred after the 11-year-old and an 8-year-old boy found a gun outside an apartment complex and began playing with it. The gun went off, hit the girl in the shoulder and she was rushed to the hospital.

The other child was not injured. At this time, police said it's unclear who fired the gun and who placed the gun in the complex's courtyard.

In Bridge City, Louisiana, on Saturday night a 4-year-old child was shot and killed while sitting in the back of a vehicle. According to New Orleans station WWL, the child was shot in the back seat while two adults were allegedly in the front seats smoking marijuana.

Following the shooting, the child was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died as a result of his injuries.

Police also said that a second, younger child was in the back seat at the time of the shooting.

It remains unclear who fired the gun but it's not believed to be hostile or self-inflicted but rather negligent. However, a police spokesperson did issue a reminder when it comes to children and guns. "Firearms should never be left unattended in vehicles or in the reach of children," the spokesperson said. "Firearms should be stored unloaded and locked with a gun lock when possible."
