TikToker Investigated for Saying He Lies to Women to Avoid Condoms

A Spanish social media influencer with tens of millions of followers has caused outrage following comments he made about unprotected sex, which have prompted a legal investigation.

Naim Darrechi, 19, from Mallorca, told the YouTuber Mostopapi in an interview that he finds condoms "difficult" and as such, "I never use one." However, he said that the fact that none of his partners had ever got pregnant made him think "that I had a problem."

"So I tell them 'relax, I'm sterile.' It's true," he said in the interview.

Asked by Mostopapi about the reaction of his partners, Darrechi said that he would lie to them that he had surgery "to avoid having children," adding, "and when my son comes to me, bless him, but I think he will not come."

Many took to social and mainstream media outlets to condemn Darrechi's attitude towards consent and sexually transmitted diseases, according to the publication 20 Minutos.

The video in which he made the admission has been deleted from the YouTuber's channel, Diario de Mallorca reported.

Meanwhile, Spain's equality minister, Irene Montero, said that the deception that Darrechi had boasted about would constitute sexual abuse under current Spanish law, the BBC reported.

Montero said that a new bill defines unprotected sex without consent as an assault, and tweeted: "bragging to 26million followers about something like this reflects the urgency of centering consent. We will inform the prosecutor's office."

Meanwhile, the regional Balearic government said it would legally pursue Darrechi, describing his comments as "particularly serious" given the impressionable ages of those who follow him on social media, La Vanguardia reported.

The administration of the president of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, said Darrechi's comments violate an article of the Penal Code referring to sexual abuse, and another article against the "exultation" and "justification" of sexual abuse.

"The obligation of the executive is to ensure that content broadcast on social network do not promote actions against the sexual and reproductive rights of women," it said in a statement, according to a translation.

Darrechi has 26.8 million followers on TikTok, making him the most followed Spanish star on the platform. He also has 7.3 million followers on Instagram, where he posted an apology.

"I want to apologise, really," he said, "sometimes I don't realise what responsibility I have."

"I made a comment that really is out of place and that is not right," he continued, "Sometimes I say things and sometimes I exaggerate, but here it's just crazy what I said, I wish it had been cut at the edit and that no one had heard it."

Newsweek has contacted Darrechi for further comment through his Instagram and TikTok channels.

In September, Spain's parliament will debate a new law which would reclassify all non-consensual sex as rape.

The bill, known as the "Only yes means yes" law, says consent is recognized only when a person "has freely demonstrated it through actions which, in the context of the circumstances of the case, clearly express the person's will," The Associated Press reported.

It follows anger over lenient sentences being given to men in cases where they were convicted of sexual abuse, rather than sexual assault.
