An active SWAT operation is unfolding in Pima County, Arizona, near Nancy Guthrie's neighborhood, in connection to her disappearance, News Nation reports on Friday night.

"Law enforcement activity is underway at a residence near E Orange Grove Rd & N First Ave related to the Guthrie case," Pima County Sheriff's Department said on X shortly before midnight local time (2 a.m. ET), after news reports emerged. "Because this is a joint investigation, at the request of the FBI - no additional information is currently available."

Newsweek contacted the sheriff's department via email Friday night for comment.

Why It Matters

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for 13 days. The disappearance and search have sparked nationwide attention. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said items at the scene indicate that the 84-year-old woman did not leave "on her own."

What To Know

According to NewsNation, SWAT centered on a home, ordered two people out and they complied. The residence is being searched and the vicinity blocked off by police is about 1.9 miles from Guthrie's home, per the outlet.

A Pima County Sheriff's Department plane was in flight on Friday, NewsNation says, about the time a mobile command center was spotted leaving the department.

According to Fox News Digital reporter Michael Ruiz on X Friday, a warrant has been served and one person has been detained, citing a local law enforcement source.

In a separate post Ruiz added, "UPDATE: I’m told that after receiving a tip, authorities have detained two males, plus one of their moms. However, source cautions that during a warrant execution 'technically everyone is detained.' Unclear if anyone is a suspect."

The sheriff's department said on X shortly after 11 p.m. Friday (1 a.m. Saturday ET), "Reporting that current law enforcement activity is surrounding a home belonging to a former county attorney is NOT accurate."

Also on Friday, TMZ said it received a new email from a man claiming to know the identity of Nancy Guthrie's kidnapper. The email says the person wants the $100,000 FBI reward in two separate bitcoin transactions and will reveal "the name of the main individual."

The FBI announced on Thursday that it is doubling the reward to $100,000 for information leading to Guthrie's location and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

The bureau also released an updated description of the "suspect" seen in doorbell camera footage outside Guthrie's home. "The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’9” - 5’10” tall, with an average build. In the video, he is wearing a black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack," the FBI said in its X post in part.

The FBI added in part: "We hope this updated description will help concentrate the public tips we are receiving. Since February 1, 2026, the FBI has collected over 13,000 tips from the public related to this case."
