The Washington Nationals have one of the better young cores in all of baseball right now, but they're not in a position to win in the loaded National League.

As a result, they could be looking to trade their ace, MacKenzie Gore, before his contract runs out in a few years. Gore is at his peak value right now, and the Nationals could take advantage of that this winter.

Jackson Roberts of Fastball OnSi predicted the Nationals would opt to cut ties with Gore in a big trade over the coming weeks.

"We've come to the 'easiest' one at the end of the list," Roberts wrote. "The Nationals are pretty clearly in rebuild mode, and even with Gore under contract for 2027 as well, the incentive to move him before his walk year should be enough for new president of baseball operations Paul Toboni to pull the trigger."

If the Nationals opt to trade Gore this winter, the New York Mets and New York Yankees make sense as potential landing spots.

The Yankees have been linked to multiple top pitchers in free agency and on the trade block, but they haven't landed one yet. They need to add another pitcher as insurance for their injured starting pitchers.

The Mets' starting rotation struggled last year. They need to add to the rotation if they want a chance to bounce back from their down year last season. Adding Gore would benefit them right now and for the future, though it could be tough to steal an ace from a division rival.
