NC Police Bust Drug Ring, Seize 243 Pounds of Cocaine, 7 Pounds of Pot and Golf Cart in Operation That 'Was Like a Well-oiled Machine'

Authorities in North Carolina have seized 243 pounds of cocaine worth more than $3 million linked to the notorious Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico.

Operation "Smooth Operator" saw officers confiscate $1,325,000 in cash, 12 vehicles, guns, a motorcycle and even a golf cart. Seven pounds of marijuana were also seized.

The Alamance Narcotics Enforcement Team (ANET), the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration had worked together on the case for 17 months.

The drugs were distributed throughout Alamance County and surrounding areas from major drug traffickers including the Sinaloa cartel and other local dealers. The cocaine was shipped in pipes.

Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson said that the drug trade route came up across the southern borders.

"I am very proud to say these individuals that worked this particular operation was like a well-oiled machine," he said in a press conference, according to The Times News.

More than 100 officers took part in rounding up 12 of the 28 alleged culprits. A total of 25 were arrested but four are on the run. The cocaine was valued at $3,685,000.

Johnson said: "This is a prime example of if we work together, we can accomplish a lot in this county. We still have a long way to go to stopping the flow of drugs coming into Alamance County but law enforcement in this county is committed to that endeavor."

Burlington Police Chief Jeffrey Smythe said after the news conference: "This is a big one. I'm really proud of our officers. This is going to hurt some people. These are the highest dealers in the state of North Carolina, and these guys just took them down."

Earlier this month, Los Angeles police revealed how an alleged drug-running ring brought hundreds of pounds of drugs from Mexico into the United States.

Over 10 months, federal authorities seized 880 pounds of cocaine, 500 pounds of meth, 120 pounds of fentanyl, 26 pounds of heroin and $4.7 million in drug money, ABC reported.

Meanwhile, more than $1 million worth of cocaine and marijuana washed up on Orange Beach, Alabama this week, were discovered by members of the public.
