Is Netflix Down? Error Code NSES-500 Displaying For Users

Problems with Netflix were being reported in the U.S. and around the world late Tuesday and early Wednesday, with customers taking to social media to share their frustration.

According to Downdetector's outage map, the streaming service's customers across the U.S. were having issues accessing their accounts, including in New York City, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

Downdetector, a website tracking reports of internet service outages, recorded a spike in Netflix users reporting outages shortly before 12 a.m. ET and more than 1,000 had been reported by about 12.30 a.m. ET.

Approximately 66 percent of those who reported problems said they had issues with the website, about 18 percent reported server connection problems, while 16 percent of users said they had video streaming issues.

According to NetBlocks, a watchdog organization, the Netflix website was displaying an error code—NSES-500—for some users and comes after Apple experienced a global disruption to its ID authentication and iCloud services.

"Note: Streaming service Netflix is experiencing international outages," NetBlocks said in a tweet. "The incident comes shortly after Apple experienced a major global disruption to its ID authentication and iCloud services #NetflixDown."

Netflix's Help Center says the company is not currently experiencing any interruption to streaming services.

"We strive to bring you TV shows and movies you want to watch, whenever you want to watch them, but on very rare occasions we do experience a service outage," the page says. "If we are experiencing an interruption to our streaming service, we'll keep this page up to date with a description of the problem."

According to the page, the NSES-500 error code usually means that information stored in the user's browser needs to be refreshed. They are advised to refresh the page using the reload icon next to the address bar, and try Netflix again. If that does not work, they can contact Netflix Customer Service.

Netflix users shared their woes in comments on social media and on DownDetector.

"Kaboom. Netflix just went down hard. Getting error message repeatedly," one person commented.

"Netflix is currently down everyone... :( sad times," another wrote.

Netflix has been contacted for comment.
