Newsmax Host Says Joe Biden's 'Junkyard' Dog 'Needs a Bath'

Newsmax host Greg Kelly criticized President Joe Biden's dog on his show on Friday, comparing the German shepherd unfavorably to other presidential dogs of the recent past.

Kelly spoke to two historians about Biden's dog Champ during Greg Kelly Reports and suggested that the Biden family needed to take better care of the White House pet.

"Did you see the dog?" Kelly asked Newsmax viewers as a photo of Champ flashed up on the screen. "I want to show you something I noticed. Does he look a little a little rough?"

"I love dogs, but this dog needs a bath and a comb and all kinds of love and care. I've never seen a dog in the White House like this."

Kelly then compared Champ to the dogs of former presidents. Most recent residents of the White House had a dog, with the exception of former President Donald Trump, who had no pets during his four years in office.

"I remember Buddy. I remember Millie," Kelly said, referring to the Clintons' dog Buddy and the Bushs' dog Millie.

"I remember lots of dogs, but not a dog who seems, I don't know. I don't know how much love and care he is getting. Let's bring in the historians. I'm having fun with this obviously but I do want to talk about some stuff."

Those historians were Doug Wead, who famously and controversially recorded conversations with the Bush family, and Craig Shirley, who has written several books about former President Ronald Reagan.

"Millie had like a staff, and they really took care of her. Very beautiful dog" Kelly went on. Millie was a Springer Spaniel owned by George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush.

"This dog looks like from, I'm sorry, from the junkyard. And I love that dog, but he looks like he's not been well cared for," Kelly said.

"No, he looks very dirty and disheveled, and very unlike a presidential dog like Millie or Victory or something else in the past in the White House," Shirley said.

Victory was a Golden Retriever owned by Reagan. Champ is 12-years-old and won some media attention when Biden defeated Trump in the 2020 election as there had been no presidential pets in four years. The Bidens also have another German Shepherd, Major.

There was also a German Shepherd in the White House during former President John F. Kennedy's administration, though officially the dog, Clipper, belonged to his children Caroline and John Jr.
