Sunday Night Football 2019: Where to Watch Green Bay Packers vs. Kansas City Chiefs, TV Channel, Live Stream, Odds

Patrick Mahomes' injury not only risks derailing Kansas City's hopes of landing top seed in the AFC, but it has also deprived the neutrals of the prospect of the reigning MVP going head-to-head with Aaron Rodgers in Week 9.

Kansas City hosts Green Bay on Sunday Night Football in a matchup that had long been heralded as a shootout between two of the most exciting quarterbacks in the league.

Mahomes, however, is unlikely to feature after dislocating his kneecap during last week's road win over the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football.

While the 24-year-old practiced on Wednesday, it seems unlikely the Chiefs would risk him just a week after his injury and the initial timetable suggested Mahomes would be out for at least three weeks.

"He attacks everything," Kansas City coach Andy Reid was quoted as saying by ESPN when asked about his quarterback's recovery.

"That's how he goes about it. He's been full steam ahead."

The argument Mahomes will take over the baton from Rodgers and Tom Brady as the best signal-caller in the NFL is a valid one, but it overshadows the fact both players represent the league's present.

The reigning MVP has thrown for 2,180 yards, 15 touchdown passes and just one interception so far this season, with a completion ratio of 65.1 percent.

Mahomes was 10-of-11 for 76 yards and one touchdown when he left the field against the Broncos.

Rodgers has been similarly impressive, throwing for 2,019 yards, 13 touchdowns and two interceptions, while completing 64.8 percent of his passes.
The 35-year-old has the best game of his career against the Oakland Raiders in Week 7, completing 25 of his 31 passes for 429 yards and five touchdowns.

In Matt LaFleur's first season in Wisconsin, Rodgers looks completely rejuvenated, despite the fact he's had to deal with a depleted receiving corps for the last three weeks.

The Packers have ridden Rodgers' hot vein of form and established themselves as legitimate playoff contenders in the process.

Green Bay is 6-1, the second-best record in the NFC along with the New Orleans Saints and behind only the San Francisco 49ers, who are 6-0 so far.

The Packers are off to their best start since 2011—when they won their first 13 games before losing, incidentally, in Kansas City—and facing the Chiefs without Mahomes gives them a great chance of extending their winning run.

With a trip to Los Angeles to face the 2-5 Chargers and a home game against Carolina to follow, it is not beyond the realm of possibility the Packers could arrive into their Week 11 bye with a 9-1 record.

Green Bay's win over Oakland also allowed the Chiefs to widen their lead in the AFC West over the second-placed Raiders.

Kansas City is 4-2 after the win in Denver but arrives into Sunday night on the back of a two-game losing streak at Arrowhead, where it previously lost to Indianapolis and Houston in consecutive weeks.

The Chiefs gave up 180 rushing yards against Indianapolis and 192 yards on the ground against Houston, and its defense against the run is the fourth-worst in the NFL.

Kansas City was much improved against the Broncos, giving up just 205 total yards, and will need a similar effort against a Packers team that has had at least one player rushing for over 100 yards in two of the last three games.
