Nursing Home Administrator Dresses as Turkey for Residents to 'Hunt' in Viral Video

A video on TikTok has gone viral for its hilarious and joyful look into one nursing home's holiday activities. The clip has been viewed over 600,000 times since it was shared on Tuesday, amassing 158,000 likes over 5,000 comments.

TikToker Kip Anthony, known on the platform as @nursinghomeadministrator, is known for documenting the kind gestures he makes toward his residents and staff. His compassionate approach has resonated with viewers and he serves as a positive model for those that work in long-term care facilities.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of 2015, there were 1.3 million people living in nursing homes in the U.S. These residents are spread out across 15,600 nursing homes nationwide, 69.3 percent of which are privately-owned.

Additionally, the transition to long-term care facilities can be challenging for many. As noted by Aging Care, a resource for caregivers: "According to the American Geriatrics Society, such a monumental change can lead to depression, ranging from mild to chronic, in approximately 40 percent of nursing home residents. "

To aid the potentially-difficult transition, Anthony aims to entertain his residents by performing silly, unexpected, and heartwarming stunts.

In his most recent video, shared on Tuesday, Anthony appears on camera wearing a head-to-toe turkey outfit. "This is how I make my residents smile," he said, following the introduction with a high-pitched turkey "gobble."

The next shot showed a room filled with fake Christmas trees, ranging in size from miniature to several feet tall. Anthony, dressed in his turkey suit, is seen hiding behind one of them. Meanwhile, a nursing home resident takes aim at him with a toy gun.

The residents roll in their wheelchairs to catch Anthony, taking turns to shoot at him with fake pellets. Meanwhile, he darts from tree to tree to avoid their line of fire. Eventually, he is "hit" and falls to the floor.

Viewers were impressed by the activity and took to the comments section to express their support. "Not all heroes wear capes," wrote @mudandmascara318, for example.

"This made me cry in the best way," commented @inarizna1. "Thank you for what you do."

"The thought of going into a nursing home is so scary, most people are so mistreated," echoed @panda041710. "I wish for a staff like yours for every nursing home."

Countless more called the video "awesome," and many even asked if the nursing home was hiring.

Newsweek reached out to Anthony for comment.
