Shirtless Man Randomly Attacks Four People, Yells Anti-white Comments, Police Say

Police in New York are hunting for a man wanted on suspicion of a series of violent attacks in Manhattan this month, warning they may have been racially motivated.

The New York Police Department confirmed this week at least four incidents occurred in Chelsea, Greenwich Village and the Financial District, taking place on August 9 and August 14.

Video footage, obtained from a surveillance camera, was released via NYPD CrimeStoppers yesterday. It showed the man walking down a street shirtless and wearing a backpack. A second image, which was not dated, showed the suspect in a white t-shirt and sports pants.

Police said on Twitter the suspect is wanted for an assault-pattern hate crime and issued a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to his identification or arrest.

According to CBS New York, the man was linked to three separate outbursts last Wednesday. Based on timings, the string of attacks appear to have escalated as the night progressed.

It was approximately 8 p.m. when he allegedly hit a 64-year-old woman on the neck with a stick. Roughly an hour later, he allegedly hurled a brick towards a 20-year-old woman that made contact with the back of her head. She was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Shortly after 11 p.m. the suspect allegedly hit a 58-year-old man in the face on Eighth Avenue and 19th Street in Chelsea while yelling anti-white comments, CBS New York reported. The victim suffered a bloodied nose but appeared to have escaped without serious injury.

Earlier this month, on August 9, police said the suspect pushed a 56-year-old male victim to the ground in Greenwich Village. The attacks, which have so far been on people of various ages and genders, are believed to have been unprovoked. The investigation continues.

Last month, NYPD released footage of a shirtless suspect in his 30s who allegedly killed a man with an unprovoked punch to the head in Brooklyn, NBC New York reported. Dimitry Goldfarb, 52, was found on the street and later passed away at hospital.

The suspect was seen leaving the scene with a woman. "We're not exactly sure what started this fight, but we do have an individual that was beaten up pretty badly and unfortunately caused his demise," NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said during a press conference on July 19, adding: "We're very confident somebody in that neighborhood will come forward."

Anyone with information about the cases can contact the NYPD hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish. Tips can be sent via the CrimeStoppers website or by texting a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
