Oakland Police Officers Injured Responding to Marijuana Grow Break-In

A number of officers in Oakland, California, were injured during a confrontation with suspects robbing a marijuana grow operation, police have said. The incident took place while others on the force responded to reports of shootings and looting on election night.

Officers were responding to a report of a burglary in progress at a marijuana grow on the 1400 block of 92nd Avenue at around 10.15 p.m.

Violence broke out when the officers attempted to detain the suspects.

One officer fired their weapon, according to local media reports, and multiple officers sustained injuries. It was not immediately clear what condition the officers or the suspects were in following the encounter.

The Oakland Police Department has been contacted for comment.

Officers in Oakland also responded to multiple unrelated shootings and reports of looting overnight, while many Americans waited with bated breath to find out the results of the contest between President Donald Trump and Democratic opponent Joe Biden.

A Starbucks inside the Fruitvale Station Shopping Center was looted.

A caravan of vehicles reportedly turned up at the mall at around midnight. Some people smashed the coffee shop's windows before ransacking it.

Just over an hour later, a car crashed into a cannabis dispensary.

The vehicle smashed into the front of the Only Good Weed dispensary, located at 2400 High Street in the Jefferson neighborhood, at around 1.30 a.m. The inside was then ransacked.

The owner said more than $100,000 worth of product and cash was stolen from the store.

The thieves fled the scene, leaving behind the damaged vehicle.

Police also responded to a shooting that left two people wounded in the city's Webster neighborhood on Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the vicinity of 92nd Avenue and Holly Street after reports on a ShotSpotter gun detection system at around 10.20 p.m. At the scene, officers found two people with gunshot wounds.

The newspaper reported that two other shootings also took place on Tuesday night—a man was shot in the arm in the 8400 block of Baldwin Street in East Oakland and three others were injured in a shooting just before midnight in West Oakland. Those injuries didn't appear to be life-threatening.

Anyone with information about the incidents is urged to call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers of Oakland at 510-777-8572.
