O.J. Simpson Tweets 'No Doubt' That Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Should Be MVP of NFL

Shortly before the Baltimore Ravens wrapped up the AFC North title in the NFL on Thursday night, former football great O.J. Simpson chimed in to say Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson should be this year's league MVP.

Here's the dialogue Simpson said in his video tweeted from Las Vegas, Nevada, as he claimed.

"Hey, Twitter world, yours truly, out and about in Las Vegas," Simpson said as the video began. "But there is a TV on, and I just wanna say, Lamar Jackson ... he is the NFL's most valuable player. I'm just saying. Take care."

Jackson passed for five touchdowns in a 42-21 win over the New York Jets to send the Ravens to 12-2 on the season and their 10th-consecutive win. The Ravens have the best record in the AFC, and they have tiebreakers over all other key teams in the conference.

Jackson on Thursday night surpassed Michael Vick's single-season rushing mark by an NFL quarterback. In the process, Jackson became the first player in NFL history to have five passing touchdowns and more than 50 yards rushing in multiple games. He did it twice in a four-game stretch.

Jackson eclipsed Vick's single-season rushing mark with 8:27 to go in the first quarter when he faked a handoff and darted right for a small gain that pushed him past Vick.

After Jackson rose back to his feet after big hit, the home crowd began "MVP" chants.

Jackson entered Thursday just 23 yards shy of Vick's 1,039 rushing yards in 2006, something he said would be something special to break. Vick said it would be "cool" to see his record broken.

"It's a cool moment in sports, especially for Lamar and also for the Baltimore Ravens," Vick said on NFL.com. "It's something that everybody can be excited about. Breaking that record, it's something I can honestly say I didn't think I'd see for a long time. When Lamar was coming out of college, we had conversations. I used to tell him, 'Play your game, be you.' But I couldn't even foresee Lamar doing this so quickly. It shows if you're with the right teammates, the right coaches, the right organization, what can happen."

The Ravens have two more games this season, both against NFC North rivals—at the Cleveland Browns (12/22) and at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers (12/29).

Should the Ravens clinch AFC home-field advantage after next weekend, there's a good chance that Jackson and other key starters could sit the final home game, essentially giving them two weeks to rest considering they will have a first-round bye in the playoffs.

O.J. Simpson won the Heisman Trophy, like Jackson, and he was a force in the NFL. SImpson rushed for 11,236 career yards before retiring, which was second-best at the time.
