Proposing to the person you're going to marry is a moment that you'll likely remember for the rest of your life, but if you want something that will make your proposal all the more memorable for your friends and family, Oscar Mayer now wants to help by allowing you to ask someone to marry you in front of the food brand's Wienermobile.
Oscar Mayer has six hot dog-shaped Wienermobiles that travel throughout the country with two "Hotdoggers" (who each have their own Hotdogger name. Oscar Mayer senior experiential marketing manager Ed Roland told Newsweek that giving people the opportunity to make Oscar Mayer part of their special day is a continuation of the company's mission to bring people joy even during troubling times.
"We've been on the road since 1936, bringing smiles to people all across the country and making families happy, and doing things," Roland said. "When the Wienermobile actually first hit the road during the Great Depression, making people happy. Let's do that again: let's make people happy during these tough times, and make your special days. Whether it's another engagement or other special moments: how can we bring the Wienermobile and involve it in your family's special day, and take it to that level?"
Roland said that the company was inspired to give people the opportunity to propose in front of the frankfurter vehicles after a Hotdogger, who goes by the name Zach n Cheese, proposed to his girlfriend with the Wienermobile. "[Zach] came to me and said, 'Hey Ed, we're going to be out near Yellowstone, and my girlfriend Hannah is coming out to visit, and I was wondering if it would be okay if I proposed to her with the Wienermobile while I'm in Yellowstone,'" Roland said.
While it was easily a great day for Zach and his now-fiancé, who was speechless at the Yellowstone proposal, Roland said that Oscar Mayer should give the opportunity for people to have a similar experience. "What a way to commemorate a special day with bringing America's favorite hot dog on wheels to that special moment to amplify and make the day even more special," he said. "He went ahead and did that, got down on one knee in front of the Wienermobile and one of the most amazing backgrounds, and proposed to his girlfriend Hannah, and she said, 'Yes,' and it was such a neat thing that we thought, 'Why can't we bring this magic to other people across the country?'"
People who are interested in getting the Wienermobile involved in their engagements (or other special days), can put in a request through the Oscar Mayer website. The company will let you know if they can accommodate, because there are usually thousands of requests for the Wienermobile, and requests need to work with routing.
Roland laid out some of the special opportunities you can take advantage of if the Wienermobile can come to your special day. "The vehicle itself will come, piloted by a team of two hot-doggers. We can work with you to setup logistics to make it a special surprising day, or however you want to make it happen. Right now, with COVID, we're not doing a whole lot of rides, but if things change in the near future, we could possibly even let you ride 'shotbun' in the Wienermobile. The vehicle is 27 feet long so we can social distance inside of it, and we are following all the CDC guidelines with masks and sanitizing and things like that. So we have those opportunities," he said.
If you're thinking of popping the question in front of the Wienermobile, the form on the Oscar Mayer website includes all the information you need for planning the special day. It does ask that you put in your request between three months and a year in advance.
