Was Mod Jed Fired? Old School 'Runescape' Team Says a Moderator Has Been Dismissed

UPDATE 09/21/18: Jagex released a new statement Friday with additional details about the investigation and firing of an OSRS Moderator:

"Further to yesterday's announcement, we can confirm that none of our players' bank or card details were compromised. We work with an industry-respected, fully compliant third-party payment processor, to purposefully avoid staff having access to players' full bank or card details. This also applies when players choose to save their details at payment stage for any future purchases. Jagex undergoes regular, third-party testing to ensure we maintain the highest security standards."

On Thursday, Jagex confirmed that a member of the Old School Runescape team had been dismissed. While the suspended team member's name wasn't revealed, signs point to the dismissal of Mod Jed. The news comes three days after OSRS Mod Jed's Twitter account was suddenly shut down. According to redditors, the mod's Runescape accounts have been banned as well.

mod Jed exposed osrs news hacking dos rot pvp team corruption

Mod Jed has been in the center of an ongoing corruption controversy that first surfaced in November 2017. The mod was accused of using his position with Jagex to impact ROT, the PvP clan with which Mod Jed has been associated. Here is the official notice posted by Jagex:

"We confirm that a Member of The Old School Team was dismissed from employment at Jagex following gross misuse of moderator privileges.

During our rigorous routine system checks, irregular activity was identified on small number of accounts, including the movement of wealth and items back into the live game.

Following our investigation, we were able to resolve the issue before any significant impact was made to the wider game, or economy. We have also taken steps to return items and GP to any affected accounts. Whilst we generally do not return items or gold, we feel that given this unusual situation, we wanted to ensure no players lost out to the rogue actions of a member of staff.

We are actively working with the Police regarding the incident, but given this an ongoing legal matter we are unable to provide further details.

We pride ourselves on the passion and integrity of the JMods that work for Jagex and we hold them to the highest standards. However, we are not afraid to take tough action and make difficult decisions if someone cannot meet those standards.

We will dust ourselves off, and move on. Old School is at its biggest and strongest since launch, but we still have much to do, not least a mobile launch which each day gets closer.

As always, thank you for your support.

The Old School Team"

Newsweek has reached out to Jagex to confirm the identity of the dismissed team member. We will update this post as more is learned.
