Owner Pays Tribute to Bond of 'Forever Friends' Dogs in Heartbreaking Clip

Following the death of one of her golden retrievers, the owner posted a now-viral tribute that highlighted the relationship it shared with her other golden retriever.

Shared to the TikTok account @wat.k0, the video—which was viewed nearly 2 million times—showed a montage of Watson hugging and cuddling Kiko. The final shot showed Watson laying down with a jar that has a photo of Kiko on the front.

The sweet homage to the duo's bond prompted a wave of commenters to express their condolences.

"The day will come when they get to be together again, this time will be forever," @wat.k0 wrote in the video's comments section.

ABC's Good Morning America reported that Watson came into owner Jennifer Medrano's life as her emotional support dog in 2015. Not long after, she adopted Kiko.

The account @wat.k0 is home to numerous videos showing the special bond the two formed throughout their years together before Kiko's death on February 1.

In another video, @wat.ki0 shared that Kiko lost his second battle to cancer. Losing Kiko has also impacted Watson.

"I've noticed a big change in him," @wat.ki0 wrote in the comments section. "But everyday it gets a bit better. His heart will heal with time."

Dogs are capable of feeling grief for other dogs if they experience a loss, according to the American Kennel Club.

Some of the symptoms outlined by the organization include lack of appetite, withdrawal from others in the home and searching for the other dog throughout the house.

Dr. Mary Burch, a certified applied animal behaviorist, told the American Kennel Club that if two dogs had a close bond, one may exhibit signs of depression if the other has died.

She recommended that an owner may look into getting another dog if their grieving dog "enjoys the company of another dog."

Burch also said "play dates" with other dogs and new activities may help a grieving dog.

Commenters shared their condolences over the loss of Kiko since his death was announced, and some recalled how difficult it was when they lost their own dog.

"That was such a special relationship," a TikTok user commented. "Such precious animals. Thanks for sharing."

One viewer wrote about a similar experience in which one of her dogs seemed to age quickly after her other one died.

"I hope Watson is holding up [OK]," another viewer wrote. "When one of mine passed away the other wasn't the same for months."

One offered some comforting words.

"Kiko is waiting in the stars," they commented.
